It’s been far too long since I’ve written a blog. For the first time in my 28 years I am realizing the reality of home ownership. After home viewings, mortgage paperwork and negotiations, the process is finally completed. Can I get an Amen!
No matter the obligations life throws your way, as a fish head you’re constantly considering the next move. In my case, not only did I find the perfect home with help of most importantly, my grandparents, but chose a location that will offer the best opportunity to pursue my bass fishing ambitions. Not only are Lake Anna and the James River within driving distance, but I am within a fifteen-minute trek of the Potomac River’s Aquia Creek. In my eyes, it’s a Virginia angler’s DREAM.
I am excited to continue building AllenLuckFishing.com and my resume. In the most recent news, I have submitted my deposit to compete in the fourth season of the VA Elite 70. I must admit that it has been a struggle in a series in which I am competing against some of the best that Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina have to offer, but I am excited to continue to build. As the saying goes, to hang with the best you must compete against the best.
This season, I am competing with a new teammate in Jesse Ewing. I have been closely following his development and I know there is a great opportunity to improve my skills under his leadership. Jesse has made a name for himself competing in theShenandoah Division of the FLW BFL Circuit over the past couple years, and I am blessed to call him my 2018 partner.
While I wrap up a few new partnerships for the next year, I would like to take the time to thank those that have supported me along the way. The road has been long and the costs even longer, and I am so honored to have some great fans by my side. First and foremost, thank you to my family for supporting me in all that I do. Most importantly, thank you to my grandparents, Emmett and Barbara Smith, who have encouraged me to follow my dreams. Bestowing the wisdom to “just have fun,” I have been able to compete for almost ten years now. Man, does the time fly!
Without sponsors who believe in you, it is very difficult to manage the costs of the sport:
Culprit has been with me since Day 1, and I look forward to continuing to use products by one of the original companies in the industry.
And I could never forget about Reelsnot, the best line lubricant on the market. With Reelsnot I have gotten to experience trade shows, most notably the Richmond Fishing Expo and the Bassmaster Classic this past year in Houston, Texas. They have treated me like family and for that I am forever grateful.
The men of CowanGates Law are not only fellow Hampden-Sydney College graduates, but have become lifelong friends over the past four years or so. Not only have we enjoyed an annual bass fishing trip, but the firm most recently helped my fiancé Loren and me obtain our first home. For all things law, look no further than the firm that appreciates and loves the outdoors – CowanGates.
To top things off, I recently added Woo-Tungsten, affordable tungsten weights, to the arsenal. More compact than lead of the same weight, tungsten will trick weary fish and put more fish in the boat.
As I embark on another year of fishing, thank you to all who have taken the time to read my blogs. I know it had been a long drought during this transitionary process, but I guarantee plenty more content to come in 2018. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as together we push ourselves to grow as anglers. Until next time, focus on the things you can control, and the rest will work out for itself. Fish On!
